I couldn't help but notice just now that the google adsense on our site was showing our own adwords campaign! would this mean we get charged and paid with google taking a slice if someone clicked on it?

Playing with Windows Live Writer

I finally downloaded MSN again because I got sick of Windows messenger and when I was doing so I was asked if I wanted to download some other software, normally I say no to whatever these evil install apps ask me but I decided to try Live Writer and Live Mail.

I’m yet to open Live Mail and if I like it I’ll let you know.

The Writer is very self explanatory when you install it and has a wonderfully easy to understand user interface, I expect I’ll use it almost every time for this blog and maybe one day for ContestedFooty.

Whilst doing that ContestedFooty link it gave me advanced options such as nofollow which is pretty cool.

Anyway I’m off to play with my new toys,

I'm really enjoying uni at the moment!

In particular my education subject. I'm working with a good group of people on a group assignment and looking forward to the outcomes.

We have to do reflection as part of our third assignement for the unit, I'm thinking I'll use this blog to do that : ) (monash geek style)

Giving up drinking for a while Gasp

So I dont have a huge amount of news to report, might be why its been so long since my last blog post.

ContestedFooty is really starting to take off- we are getting about 100 visitors a day at the moment. If that's you make sure you subscribe to our e-mail updates and tell your friends!
On the topic of ContestedFooty we are blogging for BigFooty you'll find some of our older content on their front page, its getting some discussion going so be sure to join in.
My first football practice match will be Sunday! Pumped! but shins still giving me grief : (
I have given up drinking for the above, my weight and my finances... its been a week now, going well.
I'm thinking about shaving my head. Thoughts?

My Day In Rye

On Sunday I woke up reluctantly after nothing in the realm of enough sleep. I caught a train/Cladz car to Bens, then joined the boys in Michaels car to go down to Rye (we put the girls in the other car).

Throughout this process I felt the trip was a waste of time and we should of just hung out locally, I was wrong. We had a great day; we spent the morning jumping off a cliff face into a rock pool. Had some lovely fresh fish for lunch, the girls went shopping and then the boys (and girls occasionally) whittled away the afternoon playing beach cricket! What more could you want from a day trip.

The only thing I can think of is more time to soak it up and maybe the occasional beer. Plans are casually being discussed to ensure these things happen at some point!

So thanks to those who organised the day Cladi and Chloe? Input from Shelton as well I think?

Vending Machine

I just wanted to let you all know that I found a possessed vending machine.

Possessed, James you have finally lost it I hear you say but first let’s look at the situation.

This vending machine was designed to hold onto products and eat your money, but what did it do? It gave me two packets of mints for the price of one, someone better call the technicians! Hopefully I will have a photo of the machine up soon; V needs to e-mail it me though.

Ah Connex How I Love You

I had arranged to have lunch in the city with Steph on Wednesday at 1 PM, before I headed to Bens for House Night.

Let me run you through my Wednesday:

• Wake up

• Shower

• Look at Journey Planner online to work out my day

• Random activities I don’t recall

• Double check Journey Planner because I don’t trust Connex

• Head to station to catch an earlier train than needed because I still don’t trust Connex

• Buy ticket (ripped off)

• Discover that the Sandringham line is out of action (yell)

• Wait for replacement bus that never comes

• End up getting the bus that replaced the next train (just as I’m calling to complain)

• Get told the bus will terminate at Caulfield where we can catch a train

• Miss train by 2 seconds (scream)

• Arrive exactly an hour late after planning on arriving early

• Apologise and enjoy the rest of my day/night.

After all this I read in the paper that it is some bullshit industrial action crap, how I miss the days when industrial action was warned of beforehand so the public could plan around it.

I now know exactly what Luke means about not trusting Journey Planner

Once again Collingwood have managed to make a mockery out of the AFL systems by throwing their weight around, however I am actually happy about it this time.

The bump and physical nature of our game is one of the things that make it great, I was genuinely worried that this was going to removed even sooner than the most pessimistic person had predicted, thankfully Collingwood took every avenue it could to keep their captain playing.

Why do we like it?

I'm sitting here doing sweet F all, other than dreading the thought of running laps this evening. I mean I HATE running, and strangely whilst not looking forward to the running part I am keen on going to training.

Positives: Get fit, Will perform better in actual games, Bond with mates (in particular Ben, Luke and Stewy), Meet new people, After training drinks, less guilt about house night habits.

Negatives: Running, Shin splints, Pain, Sore knees and back, After training cramps and soreness, Time consuming.

It's pretty evenly balanced and yet I LOVE it.

It must be my obsession with Football and Winning. That and some awesome mates.

Meanwhile I have to go to training tonight; they are having a food drive for some bushfire victims. It is such a tragedy, what has happened, I feel sick to think that some people have caused this willingly.

My heart goes out to all those who have been impacted, we all have close friends and family who have.

The good

I turned 21 recently and we had a great party, thanks to all those that attended and ensured it was a fantastic night!
St Kilda recently had a practice match and got through without any serious injuries, particularly happy about Maguire making it through.
I'm enjoying my new job at the bottle shop, although they are getting a fair bit of the money back.
ContestedFooty just got promoted to Pagerank 1, expect more content soon, we are disappointed with the lack of updates at the moment.
ContestedCricket has been invented, but it is nowhere near a priority at the moment.
Football training is going well with the focus being lots of running at the moment.
The community response of people to crisis.

The bad

The Bushfires that have ravaged Victoria.
The fact that there are some people out there who lit some of them.
Being sore from training.
Not writing often enough.
Football hasn't started properly yet.
Not being rich.

Primary Research

Yesterday I went to St Kilda training, both out of personal interest and to write a report for ContestedFooty. I was astonished with the impact this primary research had on the views for our site. We easily eclipsed our best day in all facets and the raised level of views has continued today. In fact the success of that article had more people coming here as well, something I found fascinating.

I have started a new blog as well: ContestedCricket it doesn't have any content at the moment, its just their to remind me that I want to start writing Cricket related articles too, I'll update here when I write its first article.

Browsers

I have just had a hunt around for different browsers since I discovered what people are viewing ContestedFooty in and I must say it has got me interested in finding more.

Here is what I have found useful/interesting:

Microsoft Internet Explorer: I tend to stay away from this one as the rest of the family use it which means I don't get to have many settings as I would like.

Mozilla Firefox: Now an established and great browser, Firefox's biggest strength is its add ons and large community. I tend to find if something doesn't work in another browser it will in this one.

Google Chrome: My personal favorite, perhaps because I am Google's bitch. I like how each tab is its own process, the options you have as a start up page and the speed of some of my prefered sites in Chrome.

Flock: Perhaps the most interesting browser of the lot, Flock is built with Social Media in mind and does so quite well. If you set this browser up properly you can log in to all your favorite Social Media sites on a sidebar which is really convienient.

As much as I wanted to plug Chrome it is actually Flock that I hope you all at least have a look at, its different and thats its charm, even if I do stay with my beloved Google.

What other browsers have you found and recommend at least having a look at? Obviouslly I haven't included non Windows browsers as I am not able to check them out sufficently.

A quick addition- I'm currently playing my music through songbird for the first time, it has me interested so maybe check that one out as well.

Jericho

I just finished watching all the episodes that Jericho the television series had to offer.

I thought it was fantastic. Particularly the episode that Jakes said 'nuts' (deliberately vague to avoid spoilers).

I think it’s a real shame that this show only got through two seasons- it had potential but mustn’t have been marketed correctly or perhaps was just unlucky.

Whatever the cause of its demise, you should all rent it some time.

To elaborate on the earlier post that I called my boss a bitch in:

We had our busiest day ever (largely caused by her incompetence) and at the end of the day I copped it for not doing a 5 minute job that was unimportant- just because she doesn’t like doing it.

So I have finally started my own blog, just for when i'm bored I'd imagine.

Random thoughts/things I've been doing:

I'm pretty excited by ContestedFooty at the moment and as a result wish it was football season all ready! Unfortuantly I need to be patient.
I have discovered Peter Wagstaffs blog RenewED and am thoughrally enjoying the experiance, not only is it interesting and well written but it is also relevent to the industry I'll be in soon.
Footy Training for the Monash Gryphons has been hard but rewarding and enjoyable, currently my calves are ridiculously tight and sore. The team seems like a real good group of guys and I look forward to the season proper
I'm broke but who isn't
This weekend should be good- starting with Chelseas birthday, which based on past experiance should be a riot.
